Judge Clifton B. Newman retired from public service after serving 23 years on the South Carolina Circuit Court where he presided over the South Carolina Grand Jury. Judge Newman presided over many high-profile cases, but gained international fame during the six-week, double murder trial of Alex Murdaugh, and then handling Murdaugh's State Grand Jury fraud cases and those of his accomplices.
